DBARA General Meeting Minutes   October 19, 2009

7:30 PM-Meeting brought to order by Vice President Tom Davies AA3AS

Guests present:

Announcements:

  1. The Nominating Committee is actively seeking candidates for the upcoming November election of Officers and Board Members at the next DBARA General Meeting.  Please see Martin Wilcox W9OV to throw your hat into the ring or nominate a worthy candidate- with their permission, of course.
  2. The next Board Meeting will be held Nov 2, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Daytona Beach Piccadilly, Volusia Mall Food Court.

Old Business:  Election, candidates so far:

New Business:

1.      Each Candidate present stood and made a short speech outlining their qualifications and reasons for seeking office.  The election will be conducted by secret ballot.  The ballots will be counted by the Election Committee.

2.      Banquet Tickets are available for $16.00 each from various DBARA Board members.  Tickets will not be available at the door as an advance head count for the reservation is necessary.  Please choose beef, chicken or fish entrée.  The Banquet will be held Dec 6th at 5:30pm

DBARA General Meeting Minutes   August 17, 2009

 

7:30 PM-Meeting brought to order by President John LoCicero K4TUG

 

Roll call 

Guest present: Ray K1JPG  Edgewater 

Announcements:

  1. The Nominating Committee is actively seeking candidates for the upcoming November election of Officers and Board Members.  Please see Martin Wilcox N0BB to throw your hat into the ring or nominate a worthy candidate- with their permission, of course.
  2. The next Wednesday Portable Ops will be held in Sanchez Park
  3. The next Board Meeting will be held Sept 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Daytona Beach Piccadilly, Volusia Mall Food Court.
  4. An Information Officer is needed.  Please see Frank Haas KB4T

Old Business:  None

New Business:

  1. Poll on DBARA Repeater:  Joe Sanders K2SAN reports 85% of responders want tone access on input to repeater so they will not the announcements.  It was agreed to table the discussion until Frank Haas KB4T can be present to explain the options. Motion by Bill Schwartz WS1C, 2nd Mel Vola K4OWK
  2. Banquet Tickets will be available at the next DBARA General Meeting.
  1. Bob Ledford WA4IDI will be reinstituting the Ground Wave to be published once   per month.  Access will be on the left side of the DBARA web page.
  2. Possible alternate sites for DBARA Club Meeting were discussed.  It was agreed to set up a poll on the DBARA Yahoo Group.

DBARA General Meeting Minutes   July 20, 2009

7:30 PM-Meeting brought to order by President John LoCicero K4TUG

Roll call   

Announcements:

  1. Steve Szabo WB4OMM is working on securing a site for a club house at the Daytona Advanced Technology Center.
  2. The Nominating Committee under the leadership of Martin Wilcox N0BB will be polling members to establish candidates for the upcoming DBARA Election of Officers.
  3. The next Board Meeting will be held Aug 3, 2009 7:00 PM at the Daytona Beach Piccadilly at the Volusia Mall Food Court.
  4. An Information Officer is needed.  Please see Frank Haas KB4T for more info.
  5. A thank you card has been sent to Joe Daley N2GBT to express our gratitude for the commemorative poker chips which he provided for the recent 2009 Field Day.
  6. Frank Haas is considering airing This Week in Ham Radio on the repeater.

Old Business:  None

New Business:

1.      New Member voted in: (Motion to accept by David Lammers AE4DL, 2nd Bill Schwartz WS1C, the vote was unanimous)      Newly licensed Ham Charles McGuinness KJ4NGS- Deland  joined under the New Ham Program

   2.    The Emergency Medical Foundation of Volusia has generously donated $250 to DBARA for the support of Community Service Activities conducted by the Club.

 3        A DBARA Committee has been invited to meet with the Volusia County School

Introduction of Members and Guests:

Announcements:

  1. Field Day will be held at Bethune Pointe Park June 27th and 28th.
  2. Field Day will also include a Club picnic June 27th at 5 PM. Bring a covered dish and plan to enjoy the association with fellow club members and visitors.
  3. The next Board Meeting will be held July, 6 6:30 PM at the Daytona Beach Piccadilly at the Volusia Mall Food Court.
  4. Sign up for the 2009 Awards Banquet which will again be held at the Golf Club Restaurant will begin at the next DBARA General Meeting.
  5. Joe Sanders K2SAN: next week’s portable op to be held at Ormond Beach Central Park
  6. Joe Sanders K2SAN announced an email pole to discuss the subject of suspending the Wednesday portable ops for the remainder of the summer due to heat.

   2.    A Proclamation by the Mayor of Daytona Beach declaring Amateur Radio Week was read by VP Tom Davies AA3AS

   3.    Hambone College will be offering several opportunities to grow in the hobby.  A Basic Electronics Course will be offered and taught by Jim Needham and Leah Bowen.  A CERT Emergency Communications Course is in the works.  Also a Tech Course will be offered in early 2010

4.        A Field Day Commemorative Coin or Poker Chip was offered.  The majority of The members agreed to accept a donation of ceramic poker chips.

5.        Plans for Field Day were reviewed.  3 Stations were planned.  People were needed to take down the antennas at the end of Field Day on Sunday.

The Presentation on QSL Cards was given by Paul Milward NU4C.  The proper format, variety, and possibilities for personalization were very interesting.

The meeting disbanded after the presentation.

1.      Watch DBARA Yahoo Groups email and listen for announcements on the Club Repeater for the locations of Wednesday Portable Ops. 

2.      The next Board Meeting will be held March 2, 6:30 PM at the Daytona Beach Picadilly at Volusia Mall on Int’l Speedway

3.      Two contests for 2009:  Squirrel Fisherman Contest.  David “Sparky” Lammers AE4DL will be the head judge.  HF Contest.  Collect those QSL cards. Jan.1 to Nov. 1

4.      Kids’ Day at the Park: A Mini Field Day for kids.  We will need volunteers to assist the kids and provide Demos.

5.      Per Steve Szabo WB4OMM There will be a CERT Training at Fire Station 1, 301 S Beach St, Daytona Beach.

6.      Bill Schwartz WS1C has Off Set Attenuators for sale to those who built antennas at the recent antenna party

Old Business:

1.      School Project:  A $1500 ARRL Grant has been won to provide a station at Samsula.  It is hoped we will be able to get the kids on the air to talk with Youngsters at a Boys and Girls Club Radio Club in MI  The Club call is K8DAR

New Business:

2.      DBARA Currently has 3 paid Lifetime Members, Steve Szabo WB4OMM, Frank Haas KB4T, and Joe Fernandez AJ4BN

3.      Investment of funds into a CD is being investigated.

4.      Volunteers will be needed for a combined Field Day/Picnic to be held at Bethune Park or Peggy Schnebly Recreation Center.  See  Steve Szabo WB4OMM, Coordinator

5.      Peggy Schnebly Recreation Center is a possible location for a Clubhouse to include a catered Awards Banquet.

6.      Allen Bestwick W1PX addressed the membership to request help with demos at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.  Paul Milward NU4C is coordinator of the Lighthouse project.

Program: Radio in the History of Ponce Inlet Lighthouse presented by Allen Bestwick W1PXThe meeting was adjourned at 9:05  Motion brought by Tom Davies AA3AS 2nd Bob Ledford WA4IDI  membership in favor- vote was unanimous.
