Hi Gang

We had a great time today on the portable OP at James Ormond Park on Old Dixie Highway. 10 hams enjoyed each other’s companionship and camaraderie and we even made about 10 contacts including DX from England and Tennerife in the Canary Islands.

I am going to take break from portable operating for the next 2 weeks. We have family coming in and I will be spending time with them

The portable OP, however, does not require my presence. If one of you would like to schedule a portable OP or 2 please do so.

I’ll be looking for suggestions for a good location to operate from the first Wednesday of the New Year. Please send one via return email

Also, for the same reason, I will be unable to be NCS for the Sunday Night DBARA VHF PSK31 Net. Some one please take over for the next 2 Sundays please.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all

Hi gang

Last Wednesday, 10DEC08, we had a pleasant portable OP in Holly Hill at Hollyland Park. There were 10 Operators present but, as has been case for far too long, few successful QSOs were completed. Conditions on 20m were just horrible.

This Wednesday, 17DEC08, we will again be on the northeast quadrant of Volusia County, Mark your maps! We will operate from Ormond Tomb Park on Old Dixie Highway north of Ormond Beach near Halifax Plantation, The park is on the west side of Old Dixie Highway 7 or 8 miles Granada Blvd and 1-1/2 – 2 miles south of Walter Boardman Lane.

Let’s hope for multiple sunspots! Set up will begin at 1030 and operation at 1100. We hope to see you there.

Talk-in on the 147.150 club repeater.

Hi Gang,

Last Friday, 28 NOV08, we held a portable OP at Central Park North in Ormond Beach. Fifteen Hams attended and it was good to see folks who are not normally available on Wednesdays due to work commitments.

We operated on 20m and made 8 or 10 contacts. Dave, WA1RWO really burned up the ether, He made most of the calls. We had many cross table QSOs also.

This week we will operate from Riverside Veterans Memorial Park in South Daytona. The park is located on South Palmetto near the foot of Big Tree Road. Setup begins at 10:30 and OPs at 11:00 on Wednesday 3DEC08. I will be unable to set up my station. I have some personal business that may require me to leave early or miss the OP entirely. Someone please bring equipment to set up and operate.

As always, talk-in will be available on 147.150 (no tone)

After Action Report for Wednesday 19 November 2008

The weather was quite windy and the temperatures were low resulting in it being cold and windy.  Despite Jose picking on everyone present and all the hot air blowing around it still was cold enough to make goose bumps. The great antenna experiment worked out great but Phil Carter burst everyone's bubble when he discovered the pole to be concrete and not metal as anticipated.  This  was discovered after working five stations between 4/4 and 5/7 signal reports.

Hi Gang

We will return to Reed Canal Park at the Nova Road entrance. I know, we were there on the 12th. Why are we returning so soon?

Well there are some new 80 foot light poles and one of them is conveniently located adjacent to the pavilion. I hope to load that pole and see how it performs as a Tall Vertical. Ant antenna gurus out there? Do you have the matching network that will let us load the pole? Anybody have a large inductor coil? If so, bring your equipment and join the fun. I will bring a Dentron 160-10 tuner in addition to my regular /P set up.

AAR for 21 October 2008

Good turn out about 15 guys overall and the DX was superb. Over 8 countries. 3 stations on the air. If we count AJ4BN.

Wednesday, 8 October

The day at Tug's Landing went down in a raging rain shower that popped out of no where and deposited a large amount of water in Tug's Landing.  Enough water that Carolyn will probably be able to tie the Tugboat up to the back door instead of having to walk up from the boat dock.  Everyone was just getting loosened up when it fell out of the sky cutting the day short.  Capt'n John, First Mate Paul and Seamen Jose, Phil, Mark, Wild Bill, George and Bob were all on the docks.
