Hello
I would like to make a note to the Starke Elementary
School schedule, the leprechaun hunt is a bunny hunt or fox
hunt that George Silver WB4DVP, TUG K4TUG, Jim Needham
AJ4GM, Doug Hubb, K4DMH, will hold on Saint Patty's day for
the kids . Starke Elementary School in DeLand now has a club call sign KJ4RWW the name of their club is KOALA TALKER. Samsula is called the RADIO PANTHERS' and have also applied for a club call sign. DBARA should be very proud of the accomplishment we have made in the last few years and we are still moving forward with the school project, and also the emergency disaster training for radio communication which Steve Szabo, WB4OMM and I hope to have started in the middle of the year under the CERT & DBARA offices. 2009 Project for Schools Turns in to a Winner by John LoCicero, K4TUG
Today, i am proud to announce that both the Horizon Elementary and Samsula charter school have be awarded a $1,500 dollar grant from the ARRL through the efforts of the DBARA. Each grant will allow both schools to purchase a ICOM 706 MK-II-G radio, antenna tuner, power supply, antenna and coax. i am now in the process of creating student ham radio clubs hopefully getting a club call sign for each school. A sponsorship from different companies such as Publix, Bright House and so on. if any one can offer help, suggestions, or advice please feel free i need all the help I can get. This is another feather in the cap of DBARA. It was started by Tom Davies, ,AA3AS when he was our President. It was Tom's idea to get into the schools five years ago. He has been a great advisor and mentor as well as a leader. Today, our club is moving forward in a positive direction due to the hard
work of a lot of great people willing to give of their time and resources, Dave "Sparky" Lammers, AE4DL, George Silver, WB4DVP, Paul
Milward NU4C, Mel Vola, K4OWK, Don McBride, WA3ZBJ, and Joe Sanders, K2SAN all
of which have
given time and equipment for this project. Best Regards 02.24.2009 Monday afternoon George Silver, WD4VDP was on the K4BV repeater looking for contacts to test out and demonstrate ham radio VHF to the Samsula Academy students. I heard him and went back to him establishing contact. Then he put one of the students at a time on the air where we exchanged names and then talked about school, ham radio, careers and more ham radio benefits. Culminating the QSO with a nice discussion with the teacher in charge. This event lasted approximately 20 minutes. Bob-WA4IDI. |
